Regine Urbach is a professionally trained dancer, and teacher with over 15 years experience teaching people of all ages.   She has performed on stage, screen and television, most recently as a principal dancer in Disney's "Enchanted."   In 2007 she was a featured dancer in promotions for widely acclaimed "Dancing With the Stars" and for Pierre Dulaine's "Dancing Classrooms," a program made popular in the recent popular movies, "Mad Hot Ballroom" and "Take the Lead."   She also appeared on cable network MNN with "Naomi Johnson's Dancing Friends."

What makes Regine unusual as a dance teacher is that she is also a musician, with over 15 years experience composing music for dance, theater, film and the pop music industry.  Her musicality tremendously enhances her ability to teach dance in that she understands how movement and sound are intrinsically interconnected; they are just experienced through different avenues of the five senses.  By working with music and dance simultaneously, the body and mind are made whole.  Rhythm provides an invisible structure for dance, and melody releases memories in the body, stimulating movement and increasing creative interpretation.

Regine is currently on the staff of the SandraCameronDanceCenter in New York City, where she gives private and group lessons.  She has also taught dance and music to children and adults with special needs at the BronxCenter for Multiply Handicapped.  Although she works with students of all levels, Regine specializes in teaching beginners, whose raw energy and enthusiasm are an inspiration to her.

HOW CAN YOU BENEFIT FROM DANCE?

In all cultures, and throughout history, dance has been used to celebrate, heal, and make people feel happy and whole.  You can maintain good health and good posture, lose weight or just experience physical rejuvenation.   Through dancing you can gain confidence, endurance, strength, and dexterity.  It is possible to help develop a person's range of motion and to help restore and maintain core balance.

A study was recently conducted in the Department of Physical Therapy at WashingtonUniversity, St. Louis, by researchers Gammon M. Earhart and Madeleine E. Hackney.   The study took a random group of 19 people with Parkinson's disease, and gave them a series of 20 one hour lessons in Argentine tango over a period of time.  Another group was told to do their regular exercises.  The researchers concluded that the group who studied Argentine tango showed the greatest improvement overall, and that while dance in general may be beneficial for patients with Parkinson's disease, Argentine tango uses several aspects of movement that may be especially relevant to balance, turning, initiation of movement, moving at a variety of speeds and walking backwards.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM DANCE?

We can all benefit from dance.  It requires no special attributes or skills.  Are you recovering from an injury?  Do you suffer from mild arthritis?  Are you a couch potato who needs a good excuse to get up and move?  Are you shy and looking for a way to meet people?  Or do you just want to relax and have some fun?   Regine's genuine patience, electric enthusiasm are quite evident within the first session.   Added to this are her clear, skillful teaching techniques that will make you feel comfortable and accomplished.  Intermediate and advanced dancers will also benefit from her skill, and sensitivity; she tailors each session to their level and ability.
